PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Created for teens ages 14–17 who have not yet begun the licensing process, this TDLR-approved course includes all the essentials needed to get on the road.
32-Hour Online Teen Driver Education (DE-964)
This state-recognized online training is the first step toward obtaining a learner’s permit. The course is available entirely online, allowing students to complete lessons at their own pace from the comfort of home.
- Students may begin the program at age 14.
- A learner’s permit can be earned after completing the first 6 hours and passing the built-in multiple-choice exam.
- The test may be retaken if the student does not pass on the first attempt.
Once the exam is passed and a Learner’s Certificate is issued, the teen must visit the DPS with a parent or legal guardian to secure the permit.
Important: To apply for the permit at the DPS office, teens must bring the following:
- Certified birth certificate, U.S. passport, or permanent resident card
- Social Security card
- Two proofs of Texas residency
- Verification of school enrollment (or report card if during summer break)
9 Hours of In-Car Driving Lessons
Texas law requires teens to log a total of 37 hours of behind-the-wheel practice before qualifying for a license. This package includes 9 hours of professional instruction, with the remaining 28 hours to be completed under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
Driving lessons are offered daily with a TDLR-licensed instructor. Students have access to the online scheduling system to book lessons at times that best fit their availability.
Note: Teens must have a valid learner’s permit before they can begin their in-car training.
Onsite Texas DPS Road Test
This package also includes the official DPS driving test, conveniently administered at our school.
Eligibility Requirements before taking the test:
- The learner’s permit must be held for a minimum of six months.
- The full 37 hours of driving practice must be completed.
- The IMPACT certificate (Impact Texas Teen Driver course) must be presented.
