PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Teen Parent-Taught Driver Education Course at My First Drive Driving School provides eligible teens with a flexible way to complete their required driver education online. The program is designed for families who choose the parent-taught option and want the teen to complete the required classroom instruction through an online course.
The package includes the required online driver education course and the applicable Texas Driver Education Certificate (DE-964) upon successful completion.
ONLINE TEEN DRIVER EDUCATION COURSE
The online course teaches teens the foundational knowledge they need before beginning their driving experience. Course topics include Texas traffic laws, traffic signs and signals, defensive driving, safe driving practices, vehicle operation, and responsible decision-making.
Students must complete the first 6 hours of the course to receive the certificate required to apply for their Texas learner license. The remaining required coursework must be completed before the student is eligible to take the DPS road test.
Students can complete the coursework online while following all course requirements, allowing families to fit the classroom portion of the program into their schedule without attending a traditional classroom.
TEXAS DRIVER EDUCATION CERTIFICATE (DE-964)
After completing the first 6 hours of the required online course, the teen will receive the applicable Texas Driver Education Certificate (DE-964), which can be used to apply for their Texas learner license.
The student must complete the remaining required course hours before becoming eligible to take the DPS road test. The DE-964 serves as documentation of the student’s completion of the required driver education coursework.
IMPORTANT: The certificate does not by itself issue a learner’s permit or driver license. Students and parents or guardians must still complete all applicable Texas DPS requirements and any remaining portions of the parent-taught driver education program.
Parents and students should review the current Texas requirements to ensure they complete all required steps for the licensing process.
